PeaceLeader Award
The Highly Esteemed Award for Leadership in Violence Prevention

Each year, the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention (ICVP) honors leaders in the field of violence prevention through the PeaceLeader Award.

The PeaceLeader Award, inaugurated by ICVP in 1997, recognizes individuals and organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their efforts to reduce violence in their communities. ICVP staff, Board representatives, and youth leaders select PeaceLeader Award recipients based on criteria that include: leadership; demonstrated impact; and recognition among peers.

PeaceLeader Award recipients are honored and receive their award during ICVP's Annual PeaceLeader Luncheon, the centerpiece event of the Educational Conference.

ICVP's 2005 Conference
Preventing Bullying and Relational Aggression

On September 28-29, 2005 ICVP hosted it's tenth annual conference, vision.action.change. on preventing bullying and relational aggression.  We were fortunate to feature world-reknown keynote and expert session speakers including:

  • Dr. Meda Chesney-Lind, University of Hawaii
  • Dr. Dorothy Espelage, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
  • Dr. Ronald Slaby, Education Development Corporation/Harvard Graduate School of Education
  • Dr. Marlene Snyder, Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life, Clemson University

Additionally, local leaders and youth from throughout Illinois presented workshops ranging from rural approaches to bullying prevention, to youth-led efforts on the topic.  Our annual PeaceLeader Awards ceremony was held during the Wednesday luncheon (see sidebar).  Through this training and networking opportunity, ICVP’s conference helped youth and adult violence prevention practitioners to prevent bullying more effectively.
