Inaugurated in 1997, ICVP's PeaceLeader Awards recognize individuals and organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their efforts to prevent violence. A committee of ICVP staff and past recipients select awardees based on criteria that includes leadership, demonstrated impact and recognition among peers. The 2005 PeaceLeader Awards ceremony was held at ICVP's annual conference on September 28 in Arlington Heights.

  • Youth PeaceLeader: Jackie Huff, East Alton. For her leadership on the Youth Advisory Board of the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority
  • Individual PeaceLeader: Arthur Dunn, South Side Help Project, Chicago. For his outstanding work to mentor youth.
  • Organizational PeaceLeader: North Lawndale College Prep, Chicago. For its leadership in creating a peaceful and respectful school environment
  • Corporate PeaceLeader: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. For its enduring support of the violence prevention movement
  • Media PeaceLeader: Fox Valley Bureau of the Daily Herald, Elgin. For its coverage and support of programs that prevent violence
  • Policymaker PeaceLeader: The Honorable Kathy Ryg, Vernon Hills. For her leadership in policies and practices that support after-school investments and improved school funding.
  • Collaborative PeaceLeader: Jackson County Bullying Prevention Coalition, Murphysboro. For its broad efforts to reduce bullying in Southern Illinois
