Best Practices Institute

What We Do

The Best Practice Institute conducts an assessment of current needs/issues in the field. Based on the practitioner needs and research on practices derived from scientific evidence, program evaluation and/or promising practices, curriculum and single session workshops are developed. The overall goal of these workshops is to provide the opportunity for practitioners to increase their knowledge in a given area of violence prevention and to better understand how to apply evidence-based or promising practices into the context of their own work.

Currently, we host a range of capacity building opportunities throughout the year. These include workshops, presentations, and regional meetings that focus on training and networking. BPI will also offer coaching services to help train participants in applying the information learned into on-site practice. Programs, schools, and individuals frequently call on us for information and referrals on violence prevention research, best practice programs, statistics, and local resources to connect with.

Coaching: Unique to our capacity building services are the coaching services that follow the workshops. These services support the knowledge gained from our trainings as well as making it applicable to the participant’s program. The Coach offers skill-building and additional resources for practitioners to effectively implement and self-evaluate their own programs. Coaches assist with the maintenance of individual skill as well as building program quality. Please note----coaching sessions are included for those participating in the Foundations for Success programs.

Contact

Given that the needs of direct service providers, schools administrators and staff or anyone interested in the field of violence prevention vary, we make it a point to try and tailor presentations, trainings and workshops to meet the needs of the specific population. Trainings can be adapted to include more than one topic area and fit within a desired time frame. Please note that times are suggested for trainings to be more effective in accomplishing objectives in skills building and provide time for role plays, practice with tools, discussion and question and answer.

For more information regarding upcoming trainings and/or scheduling an on-site presentation, please contact Karin Stortz, Training and Curriculum Coordinator at kstortz@icvp.org or 312.986.9200 ext 239.
